Remember go-karting as a child? The happiness, and the fun you had. How about reliving that experience on the roads for your next date or road trip? The Polaris Slingshot is the perfect joyride for you.

A three-wheeled motor vehicle, the Slingshot created several curiosities – Is it a car? Is it a motorcycle? Will I need a helmet? What license do I use?

Although the Slingshot comes without a roof, air conditioning, or even doors, it has the comfort of a car. It comes with bucket seats which make your long drives more relaxed. As a majority of street legal autocycles have the features of a motorcycle, you are recommended to wear a helmet for safety even though it depends on the state you are driving it in. You can drive the slingshot with a valid state driver’s license. This street legal vehicle weighs only 1,749 lbs, making it fuel efficient.

While you zoom down the road powered by a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine, you can also enjoy a complete and unobstructed view. The open top lets you literally feel the speed, something not possible in a normal car.

The sporty race-car-like Slingshot also boasts a Ride Command infotainment system. It comes with a 7 inch multi-touch display, built-in navigation, and Rockford Fosgate audio system. Reversing a car can be a real challenge at times. To tackle this, the Slingshot comes with a rear camera. If you are going in a group you can rent multiple Slingshots and use the Ride Command to share route details with each other. The adventurer in you can also plan a route instead of using the pre-loaded ones. Vehicle data like the fuel range, altitude, fuel economy, and miles to your next oil change, are also available at your fingertips.

The Polaris Slingshot comes in 4 models. The Slingshot S has two 17 inch front wheels and an 18 inch rear wheel, the Slingshot SL, SLR, and SL LE variants have a 20 inch rear wheel with two 18 inch forged aluminum front wheels. If you are not a fan of an open top, you can opt for a “Slingshade”, which are polycarbonate windows, protecting you on a harsh sunny day.

The base model, Slingshot S, has no audio system or windshield. Slingshot SL comes with an added Ride Command, audio system, 7.5 inch windscreen, and a rear-view camera. In addition to the other features, Slingshot SLR sports a navigation system which is a good pick for a long journey. For a premium experience, you could rent a slingshot SLR LE which gives you a more car-like feel. It adds quilted comfort seats, Slingshade, and a 200-watt RMS audio system.

The Polaris Slingshot is worth a try, a three-wheel experience that will also give you a lot of attention on the road.
